Impact Evaluation
Grade R Maths & Language Improvement
The Gauteng Grade R Maths and Languages Improvement Project is being implemented in all Grade R classes in public ordinary schools and registered Grade R classes in some community organisations. This builds on work done previously in the Western Cape where Kelello evaluated the implementation of R-Maths. The findings were used to design and implement a similar intervention in Gauteng.
Design-Based Research
JumpStart Numeracy Intervention
JumpStart collaborated with the Ekurhuleni South District across 20 low-performing no-fee schools. Research-based structured learning material is coupled with in-class support, teacher training, and real-time monitoring. Kelello acts as a long-term research partner (since 2019), analysing Early Grade Mathematics Assessment data and publishing findings in peer-reviewed outlets.
Policy Support
DBE e-Education Guidelines
The Department of Basic Education, in collaboration with Telkom Foundation, recognised the urgency to embark on a collaborative approach that will enhance inclusive quality learning for all in South Africa. Technical support was provided to produce e-education guidelines covering virtual schools, ICT partnerships, digital content, and multigrade teaching.
Standards-Based Course Design
Maths4Primary Teachers
Kelello, in collaboration with Nelson Mandela Institute, is leading a design-based research intervention into mathematics teaching in Initial Teacher Education. Mathematics lecturing staff from 6 public universities participate in a community of practice to design, trial and research the impact of mathematics modules on student teacher knowledge.
Research Review
Namibian Assessment System Review
A qualitative review of the national examination and assessment system for the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture, to inform system-level reform. This assignment combined document analysis, key informant interviews and stakeholder workshops to produce a comprehensive set of recommendations.
